Dr. Loren J. Samons II is Professor and Chairman of Classical Studies at Boston University. His research interests include Greek history and literature in the fifth and sixth centuries B.C, Athenian democracy and imperialism, Greek and Roman historiography, warfare in antiquity, Roman republican history and the later Roman Empire.
Among many books, book chapters and articles, he has written the popular monograph “What’s wrong with Democracy? From Athenian practice to American Worship” (University of California Press 2004; paperback in 2007). He is editor and contributor in the “Cambridge Companion to the Age of Pericles” (Cambridge University Press 2007).
