Dr. Platon D. Mavromoustakos

Dr. Platon D. Mavromoustakos is Professor at the Department of Theatre Studies, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where he has been teaching since 1991.

Dr. Mavromoustakos holds a Law Degree from the University of Athens [1981], a Postgraduate degree [DEA-1982] and Doctorate in Theatre Studies, from the Institut d’Etudes Théâtrales, Université de la Sorbonne Nouvelle-Paris III [1987: supervised by Bernard Dort (Paris III) and Stathis Damianakos (CNRS)].

In addition to being a well-published scholar (with over 150 articles in newspapers, science magazines, and also literary journals), Dr. Mavromoustakos has collaborated with many state-subsidized theatres in Greece and has directed several research projects on the history of Modern Greek theatre, on the reception of Italian Opera and on History of Ancient Drama Performances in Europe and Modern Greece. He is the General Editor of Moliere’s Complete Works in Greek (3 plays published up to now).

More recently, Dr. Mavromoustakos has been a Founding Member of the European Network of Research and Documentation of Performances of Ancient Greek Drama. He is Member of its coordination committee and of the educational committee of the Intensive Summer Course on performing Ancient Drama (Epidauros 2002-2007 – IP Socrates/Erasmus).
