University Seminars Program: Senior Visiting Scholars

Michalis Chrysohoides, MP

Michalis Chrysohoides was born on October 31, 1955 in Nissi, a town in Imathia, North Greece. He comes from a rural family that settled in Greece during the population exchange between Greece and Turkey in 1922. He is a graduate from the Law School at the University of Thessaloniki. With a long history in public service, Chrysochoides embarked on his legislative duties in 1989. Since then he has enjoyed the continued support of the electorate in his rural district that elects him in soaring numbers and across party lines. He served as a deputy Minister for Commerce (1995-1999). He then became Minister of Public Order (Homeland Security) and eradicated domestic terrorism in Greece (Summer of 2002) in perfect timing before the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, leaving his mark on Greek politics as one of the most successful Ministers over the last 30 years.
