WORKSHOP ON THE TEACHING OF THE MODERN GREEK LANGUAGE AT UNIVERSITIES IN NORTH, CENTRAL & SOUTH AMERICA
September 15, 2007: Onassis Cultural Center, Olympic Tower, NY
The Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation (USA) organized an international Workshop on the teaching of the Greek language in Universities of North, Central and South America with the participation of twenty seven Hellenists from the United States, Canada, Argentina, Chile, and Mexico. The Workshop was chaired by Dr. George Babiniotis, Professor of Linguistics and former Rector of the University of Athens. Participants focused on topics related, among others, to the methods and means of instruction with a special emphasis on the integration of new technologies and the Internet in language courses, the importance of enhancing Greek language instruction with a parallel examination of the history of the Greek language, culture and literature, the prospects of cooperation among professors and Universities, and the essential role of the teaching of the Greek language at Universities in the broader development and the future of Modern Greek Studies Programs.
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON HELLENIC STUDIES IN NORTH, SOUTH, AND CENTRAL AMERICA

The Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation (USA) organized in New York City, an international conference on Hellenic Studies in North, Central, and South America. The Conference, chaired by the Rector of the University of Athens, Professor George Babiniotis, was attended by 24 eminent Classicists and Hellenists from Latin America, Canada, and the United States. During the conference, the participants, both in individual presentations, and related discussions, focused on issues pertaining to, among other subjects, the present status and future of Hellenic Studies, the teaching of the Greek language, and areas of cooperation.
FIRST CONFERENCE OF CANADIAN HELLENISTS
April 5, 2003: Chateau Laurier Hotel, OTTAWA
The Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation (USA) organized a conference on Hellenic studies in Canada with the participation of nine Professors, Chairs of Hellenic Studies and Deans of Canadian Universities that offer Hellenic Studies Programs. The participants focused on the opportunities and challenges related to Canadian Hellenic Studies and extensively discussed prospects for the future including possible strategies of cooperation.
