About the Onassis Cultural Center New York
The ONASSIS CULTURAL CENTER NEW YORK
The Onassis Cultural Center New York explores Hellenic culture, from antiquity to today, through a rich and diverse program of exhibitions, events and online engagement. The newly renovated creative space in midtown Manhattan, designed by Perkins Eastman, presents a season of events where audiences can engage with art, ideas and culture. Designed to be inspiring and entertaining the programs stimulate interaction between audiences and artists and thinkers in all cultural fields from visual and performing arts to the humanities.
Programs and exhibitions– from scholarly academic to those designed for families, novices or experts – are presented free of charge to make the experience accessible to all.
With a renewed emphasis on the present, the Onassis Cultural Center New York showcases the work of established, emerging and newly discovered artists from Greece and beyond. Premiering in fall 2015, The Art Wall will exhibit specially commissioned works by contemporary artists in the renovated Olympic Tower public atrium.
In collaboration with museums, curators and scholars from around the world, the Onassis Cultural Center New York produces critically acclaimed archeological exhibitions, often featuring treasures never before shown in the United States.
Exhibitions range from Ancient Greek & Roman Art, Byzantine Art and Modern & Contemporary Art.
ONASSIS FESTIVAL New York
A new initiative, the annual Festival of Arts and Ideas, explores the relevance of the classical tradition through innovative and adventurous programs with commissioned works and extraordinary participants.
